EcoThrift Home was created with one simple goal: help people cut their energy bills without spending a fortune doing it.
Most energy-saving advice falls into two frustrating categories: it's either too vague ("turn off lights!") or too expensive ("install solar panels!"). We believe there's an underserved middle ground — practical, specific, low-cost strategies that work for renters and homeowners alike, regardless of how handy they are or how big their budget is.
Every tip we publish includes the following:
- A specific, actionable instruction (not vague advice)
- An estimated annual savings figure, based on EIA data and published research
- An honest cost assessment (including free options wherever they exist)
- Product recommendations only when they genuinely improve on the free alternative
What We Believe
- Budget-first. We always cover the free or cheapest option before recommending a purchase.
- Evidence-based. Our savings figures come from the U.S. EIA, ENERGY STAR/EPA, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and peer-reviewed research — not guesses.
- Renter-friendly. Most of our tips work in apartments and rental homes with zero landlord permission required.
- Honest. We'll tell you when a product isn't worth it, and we disclose all affiliate relationships clearly.
